Lailatul Zubaidah Hussain

Madam Lailatul Zubaidah was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2001. Upon completing the Bar Vocational Course, she interned in Niru & Co LLC, Singapore and ZICO Law, Malaysia.

Madam Lailatul Zubaidah started her career in the Attorney General’s Chambers of Brunei Darussalam in September 2001 as a Deputy Public Prosecutor. She was appointed as a Magistrate to serve the Brunei Judiciary in 2002, promoted to Senior Magistrate in 2010 and appointed as an Intermediate Court Judge in 2016 until her resignation in April 2020.

Madam Lailatul Zubaidah has extensive experience as a criminal trial judge and was heavily involved in the establishment of the Juvenile Court in Brunei Darussalam. During her tenure as a Judicial Officer, Madam Lailatul Zubaidah served as a Judge of the Commercial Court, High Court Registrar, Deputy Official Receiver, Deputy Probate Officer, Judge Advocate in the Court-Martial and a Registrar of the Small Claims Tribunal. Madam Lailatul Zubaidah was also the Tutong District Magistrate responsible for the administration of the Tutong District courthouse. Her main areas of interest include Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), insurance litigation, conveyancing and commercial advisory matters.

Besides being a law practitioner, Madam Lailatul Zubaidah is also the Founder of Damai Mediation, the first mediation practice in Brunei Darussalam offering mediation services as well as mediation training and accreditation. She is the Brunei Resident Representative of ADR ODR International (AOI), a leading alternative and online dispute resolution provider in London, United Kingdom.

Madam Lailatul Zubaidah is a passionate woman and strongly believes in giving back to society. She is former Country Lead and now Special Adviser for Girls4Girls Brunei, an international mentoring and leadership programme for young women curated at Harvard University. She has also been appointed Legal Adviser for the Brunei Red Crescent Society (BRC) since 2020 with LZ Hussain & Co. being BRC's appointed law firm.

Her recent appointments have taken her into the realm of education which include an appointment as Consultant at Sapphire Academy, a special needs school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, an appointment as Member of the Board of Governors at Miftah Islamic International School Brunei Darussalam and as Director of Ehsan Education Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary company of Pusat Ehsan Al Ameerah Al Hajjah Maryam, operating Brunei's first private sector special needs school.
